Help Your Child Want to Behave
We are giving away 3 copies of this eBook!
(description from the author site:)
Would you like to try a more gentle form of discipline but you aren’t sure how? Parents who spank, yell, or use timeouts and “consequences” as threats are often disbelieving when they hear that there are families who never hit, never use timeouts, and rarely raise their voices to their children.
But you shouldn’t need to use these methods of discipline, and if you’re using them now, you’ll probably be quite relieved to hear that not only can you wean yourself away from them, but your children will be better behaved as a result.
In this 90 page workbook, you’ll develop your own plan to put positive discipline to work in your house.

Unconditional Parenting: Moving from Rewards and Punishments to Love and Reason
by Alfie Kohn
(description from Amazon.com)
Most parenting guides begin with the question “How can we get kids to do what they’re told?” and then proceed to offer various techniques for controlling them. In this truly groundbreaking book, nationally respected educator Alfie Kohn begins instead by asking, “What do kids need — and how can we meet those needs?” What follows from that question are ideas for working with children rather than doing things to them.
One basic need all children have, Kohn argues, is to be loved unconditionally, to know that they will be accepted even if they screw up or fall short. Yet conventional approaches to parenting such as punishments (including “time-outs”), rewards (including positive reinforcement), and other forms of control teach children that they are loved only when they please us or impress us. Kohn cites a body of powerful, and largely unknown, research detailing the damage caused by leading children to believe they must earn our approval. That’s precisely the message children derive from common discipline techniques, even though it’s not the message most parents intend to send.
More than just another book about discipline, though, Unconditional Parenting addresses the ways parents think about, feel about, and act with their children. It invites them to question their most basic assumptions about raising kids while offering a wealth of practical strategies for shifting from “doing to” to “working with” parenting — including how to replace praise with the unconditional support that children need to grow into healthy, caring, responsible people. This is an eye-opening, paradigm-shattering book that will reconnect readers to their own best instincts and inspire them to become better parents.

Is this where I comment for the rafflecopter entry?
It's hard to choose one item – I think every single book would be a great asset in my "new" journey into gentle parenting. I wish I could line all the books up on a shelf and run my finger across their bindings and immediately know everything inside.
But I think I would choose the feelings flashcards as my favorite. I think they would provide the most immediate benefit for my almost 2 year old daughter.
Anna B says:
I would honestly love any of them! Positive Parenting in Action, Help Your Child Want to Behave, and the Starter Pack would all be invaluable in my work. I'm thinking the workbook format of the second one would be especially awesome for parent coaching.

Stephanie says:
I have the Positive Parenting in Action ebook, and I love it!! It really helps to show so many scenarios! I would love to win the starter pack though. I still struggle with raising my voice a bit, but I'm no longer spanking. Thank y'all for so many great resources; it has really helped me change my parenting style completely and my son and I have a really deep connection now!
Angela says:
I really need the Help Your Child Want To Behave book. I have two rambunctious preschool-aged boys. I am a stay-at-home mom, and we're homeschooling. They are good…until they're around a child that misbehaves, and then they follow suit. The bad behavior takes weeks to reverse. When I ask them why they're misbehaving and acting like so-and-so, they say it's because they "want to." We have tried so many discipline books and tactics and have even asked our pediatrician. Their behavior is considered normal, but I really need help at reversing it and making them want to behave without bribery. Thank you!!
Shanon says:
I'd love any of the prizes! But definitely the Parenting Gently Starter Pack. I have an almost two year old and am due this summer with our second child… I really want to be a gentle, positive parent. What an amazing giveaway.

Julinda says:
I think Siblings Without Rivalry would be helpful to me! But they all sound great.
Catherine says:
I'd love the Help your Child Want to Behave book, but all of these are great.

How to Talk… would be my favorite. I've heard of this book before and have no doubt it would be useful. The flashcards too–my 5-year-old has big emotions and I think these would help him understand himself better.

It's so hard to choose. The feeling flashcards would perfect for my son right now, the artwork is just beautiful and would be a reminder of our gentle parenting goal in our home, and a book would be so helpful… As I've come to find out with our second little guy, gently parenting one child is different from the next, so a book like positive Parenting in Action and Help your Children Want to Behave would be SO helpful.
Thank you, Parenting Gently, for being such a great resource for parents!
